School resumes in two short days and today was spent getting the room ready to reflect the New Year, new season, new month, and the new unit.
I found the perfect book for one of the first Wacky Word Problem Wednesday of the new year... Ten Sparkly Snowflakes illustrated by Russell Julian. This counting book hits many of the TK math standards and should lend itself to some fun math discussions! The plan is to read the story on Monday and allow students to use their fingers to count as I read. I will then give students a pile of ten unifix cubes and have them build a tower of ten. I may have them make a pattern with the cubes... we shall see. As I read I will have them take a cube off. On Wednesday I will make an anchor chart and we will work on word problems using the book. Focus will be placed on adding and subtracting the snowflakes to five. I can't wait to see how it all works out! :) Here are some pictures and an affiliate link to Amazon if you would like to purchase one for your class! |

Hi! I'm Jennifer and I have been teaching TK in California for the last eight years years... What an experience! When I am not teaching and writing curriculum I am taking MORE classes, doing homework and spending time with family and friends. Over the years I have discovered that I often use ellipses in my informal writing...often too often...and often incorrectly. I consider myself to be a bit of a paleontology nerd. Brain studies excite me. I believe in the power of play. I enjoy staff meetings at Disney. I consider myself to be a crunchy constructivist. Amante de cafe!
